Five Ways To Make Moving Easier
Moving day can be a big source of stress for a lot of people and it’s no wonder why. Getting all your stuff in order and moved from one residence to a new one is a major hassle.
The fact is, we don’t always live our lives with our stuff neatly organized while in between moving homes. So when it does come time to shift locations, there is going to be a fair bit of work just getting your personal belongings in order – let alone organized and even labelled, so that unpacking at your destination is that much easier.
But moving your stuff doesn’t have to be a big hassle. Just try out these helpful tips to make your big move an easy one.
Sort your stuff in boxes ahead of time
This is something of a no-brainer, but one that people don’t really plan ahead for. As soon as you decide to move, start packing up the belongings you don’t currently use. Out-of-season clothing, sports equipment, or simply things you don’t use on a weekly basis can start to be packed away in preparation for your move to prevent the packing from having to be done all at once.
The only way to safely get your stuff from point A to point B is in appropriately sized and labelled boxes. As part of your planning for your move, obtain the right number of boxes, and at the right sizes, and label them accordingly – from kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and so on.
Ditch the junk neatly and quickly with a garbage bin
Every move will involve getting rid of unwanted items – be they clothes, knick-knacks and even furniture. So what do you do with all this unwanted stuff? Well, don’t try to cram it all into your municipal garbage can. That’s a bad idea, since those garbage cans aren’t exactly accommodating for a range of items.
Instead, rent a properly sized garbage bin from a helpful provider – like the experts here at Gorilla Bin. We’ll take care of delivering the garbage bin (which can be of various sizes, depending on your need) and even pick it up! It’s the easiest solution to a variety of moving headaches.
Don’t waste money on bubblewrap – stuff your breakables in clothing
Using clothing and soft household items like pillow cases to transport valuable breakables is one of the great shortcuts of moving. You can take it to the next step by putting your glasses and stemware in socks (clean ones, of course).
Get specific with labels
Label not only the type of items contained in a box, but also the room it is heading to. This saves time, and prevents future headaches. Boxes labeled things like ‘clothes’ are ambiguous when there are several family members. Instead, label the box ‘Jamie’s work clothes,” or “Jessica’s winter clothes.”
Don’t get tangled in electronics cords – take a photo!
This is another great cheat-sheet moving move. Before unplugging all the cables from your electronics (TVs, computers, and other similar items), take a picture of how the wiring is connected so you can easily plug everything back in at your new home.
