4 Tips For A Hassle-Free Renovation
Renovations are always exciting, and usually very rewarding projects! That being said, they can also be extremely stressful—especially when it comes to cleaning up the aftermath. What to do with all those paint cans, discarded baseboards, cardboard boxes and other renovation carnage? It can be overwhelming just thinking about it!
Luckily, it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, it’s possible to have a completely hassle free renovation. Follow these four pieces of advice for hassle-free renovation clean up.
1. Work From the Outside In
When it comes to cleaning up after a major renovation, you’ll want to work from the outside in. This means start with the walls!
There’s a good chance that they’ll have accumulated a lot of dust and residue during the reno process. Give them a good dusting, and then wipe them down with a wet cloth before moving on to other areas of your home.
2. Go from Top to Down
Once the walls are done, you’ll want to focus upwards – specifically on light fixtures and ceiling fans.
These will also have accumulated a good deal of dust, and cleaning them can be messy so if you sweep the floor beforehand, you’ll probably just have to do it again. Working from the top down will prevent this problem.
3. Get Rid of the Clutter
Once you’re finally ready to tackle the floor, you’ll want to start with the big stuff first by clearing it all out of the room. A lot of people think this is the hardest part of cleaning up, but with the right planning it can be a breeze!
We recommend renting a large garbage disposal bin or a few mini bins. Somebody will drop them off at your house before you start your renovation, and come pick them up to dispose of their contents once you’re finished! Voila, no need to worry about hauling dozens of garbage bags to the dump.
Once the large debris is gone, it’s as simple as doing a thorough job of sweeping the floor, followed by a good vacuuming, and a wet wipe down for good measure.
4. Examine the Furniture
Last on your list should be checking over the furniture and cleaning off any dust and debris. Hopefully you’ll have covered big items like couches and tables before beginning to protect them.
Don’t forget out of sight spots like the top of the television, and lampshades. Dust has away of getting everywhere.
Once you’ve followed these steps, you’re free to enjoy your new renovation!
